Skytrax announced the 2026 World Airline Awards in London on 18 September 2026. Singapore Airlines took back the World’s Best Airline title from Qatar Airways, which slipped to second. Thai Airways rose to 20th from 29th, and Bangkok Airways placed 29th while winning World’s Best Regional Airline for an eleventh straight year. The World’s Best Airline ranking is decided by a global passenger survey.

Read down the list and the regional concentration is hard to miss. Asian carriers hold six of the ten places: Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, ANA, Hainan Airlines, Japan Airlines and Korean Air. The Middle East takes two with Qatar Airways and Emirates, and Europe takes two with Turkish Airlines and Air France.

The detail most coverage skips is North America, which places no airline in the top 10 at all. Its highest entry is Air Canada at 17th, followed by Delta Air Lines at 25th and United Airlines at 45th.

Singapore Airlines returns to first place after losing the title to Qatar Airways in 2025, and the two carriers have simply traded positions: Qatar Airways now sits second, the spot Singapore Airlines held last year.

Thai Airways Gained Nine Places, the Biggest Climb in the Top 30

Thai Airways moved from 29th to 20th, a gain of nine places in a single year. Measured against every other carrier inside the top 30, that is the longest distance travelled by any of them. STARLUX Airlines is next with five places, then Iberia with four. Moving the other way, British Airways fell ten places from 13th to 23rd and Swiss International Air Lines fell eight, from 11th to 19th.

That is a 20-place rise across three years, and 2026 is the largest single jump of the three. Thai Airways also ranks 9th in the Best Airlines in Asia 2026 table.

Where does Thai Airways rank in 2026?

20th globally and 9th in Asia, both from the same 2026 Skytrax results. The separate World’s Most Improved Airline award went to Egyptair this year, with Air India second and Royal Jordanian Airlines third; that award measures quality-rating gains across the whole programme rather than movement in the ranking table.

Bangkok Airways Went Nowhere Overall but Holds a World Title for the 11th Year

In the overall table Bangkok Airways rose from 31st to 29th, but four years of results show a carrier that has essentially stayed put: 29th in 2023, 27th in 2024, 31st in 2025 and 29th again this year, back where it started.

The table it actually wins is a different one. Bangkok Airways took World’s Best Regional Airline for an eleventh consecutive year and also leads Best Regional Airlines in Asia, with Canada’s Porter Airlines second and Virgin Australia third.
